| Markets to open in green ! |
|
Indian Stock markets are expected to open in green keeping the momentum intact from yesterday's great rally giving a huge thumbs up to the RBI credit policy and cheering the FM's tax exemption to the IT industry by one more year.Whether they can sustain the momentum going forward is the big question! US MARKETS UPDATE :The two-day FOMC policy meeting ends on Wednesday, 30 April 2008. The market expects the Fed to cut interest rates by 25 basis points to 2%.Also on the agenda would be to hear that the rate cutting cycle is over for the period as inflation fears loom large on the back of high energy and food prices.Even the UN has acknowledged higher food prices as a Global crisis.Meanwhile, the US Stocks ended mixed Tuesday for the second day in a row, after declining most of the session, following a troubling report on consumer confidence and some nervousness ahead of what the Federal Reserve will decide at the conclusion of its two-day meeting.Meanwhile, a consolation for the markets that Nymex crude dropped to 115 dollars a barrel. The Asian markets are trading mixed at the moment. | Markets Rally , Sensex at two months high ! |
| Tuesday, April 29, 2008 |
Update at 8:05 p.m. As with us , the US markets are also cautious as they await the FOMC's two day meet outcome beginning today. Nasdaq -10.26 Dow Jones -24.42 S&P -1.47 The Indian Bourses which were nervous yesterday and in early morning trade ahead of the RBI's annual credit policy review bounced back in style after the RBI kept the interest rates unchanged and hiked the CRR by 25bps to 8.25% effective 24th May.Though all is not rosy and the CRR hike of 25bps is going to take out Rs 9250 crores of liquidity from the system coupled with the 50bps cut earlier this month. The rate sensitive sectors like Real Estate , Auto's and Banks surged ahead and kept the Sensex in deep green after the RBI announcement.IT played a pivotal role in making the markets reach newer highs with the Finance minister extending the tax exemption for the IT sector by a year. All in all , a great day for the market. For the record , the Sensex pole vaulted to close at 17,378.46 up 362.50 points or 2.13% and the Nifty closed at 105.85 points or 2.08% at 5,195.50. The euphoria is obviously there in the markets but one should not forget the problems in hand like inflation, earnings growth etc.Having said tha , positive moves have to rewarded and taken in the right spirit. We are a high growth economy and issues will arise. The only cause for concern is How well are we able to deal with them ? What one considers a negative policy in the short term often turns out to be a positive one in the medium to long term outlook.

So finally the D-day has arrived. The RBI Board meets for the Monetary policy and the FOMC meet begins today. There is lots of speculation about the rate hikes but we feel that too much is being made out of it.Factually, whatever is done by the RBI, is going to be in the best interests of the economy and hence the stock market.Albeit they don't think on short term but from a longer perspective. One can not blame them for this. | Markets Update for the Week ! |
| Saturday, April 26, 2008 |
The markets kept at bay a stiff 50 basis points hike in cash reserve ratio (CRR) and surged ahead taking cues from firm global markets and on robust Q4 numbers by corporates. The Sensex surged 644.78 points or 3.91% to 17,125.98 in the week. The Nifty rose 153.3 points or 3.09% to 5111.70. The wholesale price index rose to 7.33% from previous week's 7.14%.Meanwhile in the US , Blue chips gained on Friday, with the Dow closing at a nearly 4-month high.High crude oil and gas prices coupled with Microsoft's not so encouraging outlook failed to dampen the buyer's interest. For the record ,The Dow Jones added 0.3% and closed at its highest point since Jan. 3. The S&P index added 0.7%. The Nasdaq lost 0.3%. Its going to be a really hectic coming week with a host of things to come.
Factors crucial for the markets next week ! The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) meets for the annual monetary policy review on 29 April 2008 and the US Fed meets on 29-30 April 2008 which could give direction to the markets. There is a possibility of a rate hike in India whereas of a rate cut in the US. Also in the US , the coming week also brings economic reports on consumer confidence, first-quarter GDP growth, manufacturing and construction spending and the labor market. So there is loads of data to be digested both on the domestic and the the global front.

The market ended almost unchanged, after witnessing a great deal of volatility as the April series got over. The market was firm in first half of trade but faltered in the latter part of the trading session. | Reliance might fuel the markets ! |
|
The Indian stock markets will seek direction from the earnings by big corporates and may extend its gain for the sixth consecutive session after Reliance announced great results yesterday evening. Also Big corporates like Ranbaxy, Biocon , Ultra tech cement are to announce their results today. So Earnings would effect the direction of the market. The major issue would be the expiry which happens tomorrow and can turn volatile at any hour.Meanwhile the Us markets lost a bit of ground.Blue chips dipped and tech shares ended higher Monday as weaker-than-expected earnings from Bank of America gave investors a reason to hesitate after last week's big advanceRecord oil and gas prices also factored into the day's trade. The Asian Markets are trading weak following US markets. | Markets end with gains ! |
| Monday, April 21, 2008 |
The Indian Stock market took the Global Cues in its fold to offset the CRR hike impact and ended in gains for the fifth consecutive session. The Sensex ended 258 points higher where as Nifty closed 78 points up.The Market Breadth was also impressive but with the futures' expiry coming on 24th April , the Volumes were a bit thin. There was quite a bit of profit booking seen in IT stocks. The US futures are trading in the red at the moment. NASDAQ -8.50 DOW JONES -35 S&P -4.50 The European Indices are also trading in red with FTSE,CAC and DAX all down about a percent. The US Stock Markets are poised to struggle at Monday's open, as investors are cautious after weaker than expected earnings from Bank of America and the effect of Crude reaching all time highs of 117 .40 dollars. | Markets will be volatile ! |
| Sunday, April 20, 2008 |
We know it's an understatement that the markets will be volatile but the CRR hike before the scheduled 29 April meeting has caused a dent in the markets.Though investors were discounting a 25 bps cut , yet the PSU banks and sectors sensitive to rate hikes will show weakness with Realty , Autos being among the prime candidates.Try to avoid these sectors. We feel that the market if opens a big gap down would be an area where one can go long but only a high risk appetite trader should initiate such a trade.Tomorrow's market is not for the faint hearted. With the US markets showing positive vibes on Friday after google's terrific earnings report and hoping that the Asian markets are in green when our markets open. It is going to make one interesting trading day ." Mantra of the Day : Markets surprise you the most when you least expect them too. Not a Subscriber ? | RBI Hikes CRR ! |
| Thursday, April 17, 2008 |
The RBI has hiked CRR by 50 bps to 8% in two stages to contain rising inflation. The first 25 bps CRR hike will be effective April 26 while the second 25 bps hike will be effective May 10. The 50 bps hike would drain Rs 18,500 crore from the system. Now this is what Policy makers can do overnight. It is indeed not a good news.Although we feel that 25bps rate cut was being discounted by the markets but a 50 bps rate cut may hurt the market. That is why we asked our subscribers to close any open positions, majorly on the long side.Even our free subscribers were given Short sell calls. Its a long weekend and still three more days to go.Plenty of things are already happening with giants like Merrill Lynch and Pfizer announcing earnings below street expectations. In fact, Merrill Lynch missed even the drastically lowered estimates for its first-quarter results, reporting a net loss of $1.96 billion, or $2.19 per diluted share. It also recorded about $6.6 billion in new write downs.Major things to worry about after the CRR Hike from a stock market perspective: Slowing down of the economy as interest rates would increase thus effectively reducing that demand for goods and services . Big investors tend to leverage and invest in stock markets at higher interest rates leading higher returns expectation. This can have a cascading effect as leveraged position are unwound due to margin pressures. Earnings of Companies also take a hit due to the higher interest costs that they have to bear on their outstanding loans.Although companies with a proactive approach and sound management don't suffer. | Markets to open strong ! |
|
Yesterday was volatility at its best and we felt that the market was showing strength. The markets traded in a narrow range all day after the opening highs but still settled with decent gains.Index heavy weights had a field day , the market breadth was impressive .The only cause for concern right now is the high crude prices and low volumes of trade.Global cues have also been positive coupled with the fact that we 'll have near normal monsoons this year boosted sentiments. The US markets ended with major gains and the Asian markets are also trading in green. In the US , On Wednesday, the stock market surged 2.3% after investor sentiment was lifted by positive earnings surprises from several major corporations. All ten economic sectors posted gains. We still feel that its a investor's market from a medium term perspective although it should be a traders delight from a short to medium term scenario as volatility is abundant in these markets. F&O cues: Futures Open Interest up by Rs 494 crore Options Open Interest up by Rs 2,177 crore Nifty Futures shed 25 lakh shares in Open Interest Stock Futures add 1.8 cr shares in Open Interest Nifty Open Interest Put-Call ratio at 1.24 Vs 1.28 Exit Calls are only given to paid Customers.Free members can chat to us regarding stock specific queries during market hours.Paid members can chat from 8 A.M to 8 P.M.
